Imagine you have a wedding to go to - is it really worth buying a cocktail dress that you're only going to wear once? Or have you ever wanted to buy something designer that didn't fit in your budget? It's hard (and expensive) to keep up with trends, and there's a more sustainable way to feel good in real fashion without the commitment.
Rent the Runway was built to create a new behavior in shopping – to rent designer fashion, try new trends, and always have something new to wear for anything on your schedule.. a wedding, a weekend escape, a work presentation, or just a night out with the girls. You deserve to feel confident no matter how you're feeling, each and every day.
Our aim was to create a simple experience to select items on-demand for quick delivery. I owned the visualization of both the marketing site and the end to end shopping experience. I redesigned a personalized dashboard, browsing, product pages, account management, and wishlists. I reimagined the checkout experience, and focused on the creation of new tiered membership offerings.
I created a foundational design system for the app, and worked closely with engineering to redesign the native experience. Our goal was to increase efficiency, meet accessibility guidelines, and create consistency. This initial step led to the creation of a more robust atomic design system used across web and app.
During my time at Rent the Runway, the growth in the subscription offerings led us to an additional $20M in funding, leading to an IPO in 2021. The design foundation laid is still being used today, and I am forever cheering on the success.
